Tata Motors Limited, formerly known as TELCO (TATA Engineering and Locomotive Company), is a multinational corporation headquartered in Mumbai, India. It is India's largest passenger automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturing company. Part of the Tata Group, and is the world's fifth largest medium and heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer. Over 3.5 million Tata vehicles are moving on Indian roads since 1954. Its manufacturing plants are located at Jamshedpur, Pune and Lucknow.

In 2004, it bought Daewoo's truck manufacturing unit, now known as Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, in South Korea. It also, acquired a 21% stake in Hispano Carrocera SA, giving it controlling rights in the company. Tata Motors launched their much awaited Tata Nano, noted for its Rs 100,000 price-tag, in January 2008.

In March 2008, it finalized a deal with Ford Motor Company to acquire their British Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) business, which also includes the Rover, Daimler and Lanchester brand names.

Indica Vista is a more powerful small car from the Tata Indica segment with enhanced interiors, improved quality, better performance and is built on a completely new platform. This new model is available in 3 variants: the Aqua, Aura, and Terra, and offering a choice of 3 engines : 1.4L TDI (Diesel), 1.2L Safire (Petrol) and 1.3L Quadrajet (Diesel). The TDI variants get a 70 bhp of power, the Safire variants churn out 65 bhp; whereas the more powerful Quadrajet delivers a 74 bhp. The engine is mated with the a 5-speed automatic transmission. Indica Vista has versatile and roomy interiors with contemporary styling features like a two-tone dash board, two DIN stereo system and the breakthrough central instrument cluster.

The Indigo is a subcompact sedan based on the Tata Indica platform. It conforms to international safety standards and passed the European standards of safety and also underwent full frontal and offset front crash tests besides endurance safety tests. It is offered in sedan, station wagon, and estate versions, each with petrol and diesel variants. It delivers solid build quality, high performance, and comparatively comfortable and spacious interiors in its class. The Indigo is available in a wide range of variations in India. Among the three diesel variants, two are powered by a 1.4L turbocharged engine and one powered by the turbocharged DICOR engine. The two petrol variants are powered by a 1.4L MPFI engine. A smooth 5-speed manual transmission is standard on all 5 variants. The Indigo car has a longer wheelbase compared to the Indica, which provides wider and more spacious interiors and better storage space. Clear headlamps and trapezoidal taillights enhance overall appearance of the vehicle.

Tata presents to India the world's first sub four-meter sedan - the stylish new Indigo CS (Compact Sedan). The new Indigo is shorter in length compared to the existing Indigo sedan availing the tax benefits offered to small cars in the country. Available in both petrol ( GLE, GLS and GLX ) and diesel variants (LE, LS, LS DICOR, LX TDI and LX DICOR), where the petrol version is equipped with a 1.2-litre multi-point fuel injection engine powered by a 32bit microprocessor that churns out 64 bhp of power. The diesel variants come with a turbocharged 1.4-litre engine that generates 69 bhp of power. All variants come with a 5-speed manual transmission. The interior is spacious and classy too offering maximum comfort to the passengers.

The stylish Indigo Marina was launched in the station wagon segment with an excellent pulling capability, plenty of cargo room, and fuel efficient engines. This car is available in India in GLS and GLX petrol variants and LS and LX diesel variants. There is a choice of a 1.4-litre I-4 petrol engine that produces 84 bhp or a fuel efficient 1.4-litre I-4 turbocharged diesel engine that generates 69 bhp. A responsive 5-speed manual transmission is standard across all variants. Interiors are comfortable with spacious head room, leg room, and luggage room.

The Tata Indigo V (diesel) features a turbo charged 1405 cc Indirect Ignition engine with Intercooler that delivers good power and torque, thereby meaning good performance, acceleration, and performance. It is the base level model in the Indigo V series (Diesel) with base range price tag. The car delivers a fuel economy of approximately 11 kmpl to 17 kmpl depending upon driving conditions. It's large 42 litre fuel tank means there are fewer refuelling stops on longer journeys. The Indigo V primarily comes with features like recirculation, air-conditioning, power door locks, power windows, grey bumpers, driver side OVRM, partial wheel cover, partial fabric lining, 2 spoke steering wheel, anti submarine front seats, high mounted stop lamp, child safety locks on rear doors and front/rear seatbelts.

It is offered in 4x2 and 4X4 driveline configurations and is available in 8 variants: LX 4x2, 2.2 LX DICOR 4x2, 2.2 EX DICOR 4x2, 2.2 VX DICOR 4x2, EXi Petrol 4x2, 2.2 EX DICOR 4x4, 2.2 VX DICOR 4x4, and EXi Petrol 4x4. The DICOR variants are powered by a 2.2L VTT diesel engine that gives 138 bhp. The LX 4x2 has a 1948 cc turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 89 bhp. The petrol variants come with a 2092 cc petrol engine that generates 125 bhp. A refined 5-speed manual transmission is standard across all variants of the car. The Safari makes a great impression with its bold and rugged look. The huge bumpers and chunky 16-inch wheels give the SUV a muscular look.

A no-frills version of the Tata Sumo is called the Tata Spacio. It is equipped with a 3000 cc DI diesel engine sourced from the popular LCV Tata 407. The prominent visual difference is the presence of round headlamps instead of the rectangular lamps. A soft top version of the Spacio called the Spacio ST was also introduced for the rural markets. After the facelift, the Spacio inherited the styling elements of the older Tata Sumo. In 2007, the Victa became available with the Spacio's 3000 cc engine. And in terms of styling, the positioning of the spare wheel was changed from the rear tailgate to the underbody of the vehicle. This model comes in 8 and 10 seater variants and is very much popular with private transporters & contract taxi vendors because of its lower cost.

Its powerful engine, rugged body and large cabin space offer a comfortable ride, and is ideally suited for long distance travel. It seems that the Sumo has been around for ages and has been given a few face lifts and touch-ups. It is not known for its good looks and Tata too has realised that too, but it is a rugged people-mover. If you want a good-looking version, try the Grande.
